Overview of C.O.P.S.
Each year, between 140 and 160 officers are killed in the line of duty and their
families and co-workers are left to cope with the tragic loss. C.O.P.S. provides resources to help them rebuild their lives. There is no membership fee to join COPS - the price that is paid is already too high.
National C.O.P.S. was organized in 1984 with 110 members. Today, membership totals over 12,000 families nationwide. Members include spouses, children, parents, siblings, significant others, and affected co-workers of officers killed in the line of duty according to federal government criteria.
Western New York Chapter of C.O.P.S.
Our Western New York Chapter of C.O.P.S. was founded in November of 1998 with a small handful of survivors. Today, we serve more than 70 families in the WNY area.
General membership meetings are held throughout the year, along with social activities that bring together survivors and help them to forge long lasting relationships with those who share the same experience. These meetings are open to all survivors and all interested parties.
We regularly publish a newsletter with articles of interest to law enforcement and survivors as well as information on support resources.
Contact any of our board members for information regarding our meetings or to receive our newsletter.
